Life Update: June 2018

Happy Friday, everyone! Life has been a bit of a rollercoaster lately (okay, more like a LOT), which you’re well aware of if you’ve been keeping up with my house hunting series. In this post, I’m filling you guys in on other things that have been going on in my life and what my husband and I are up to this summer.

Life Update: June 2018

Our one-year wedding anniversary is on Sunday (June 10), and I can’t say enough how fast time has flown by! We don’t have anything too special planned, but we do hope to take a walk around the gardens where we got married (and maybe have a picnic) and try to eat the top layer of our cake that we’ve kept frozen at my parents’ house since last summer. Most people are telling me it’s going to be disgusting, but I’ll let you guys know how our experience goes. I’m looking forward to just spending the day together and reminiscing on the past year. In the future, we’d like to go on a trip every year or two for our anniversary — where would you guys recommend? We loved our honeymoon in St. Lucia and we’re both big beach people!

For those who don’t know, Justin is a middle school math teacher and he’s officially moving over to the high school for his third year of teaching in the fall. He’s pretty excited (and a little nervous I think, naturally, whether he wants to admit it or not) about the change and is ready for something new, so I’m excited for him. He always like to be challenging himself in his job and doesn’t want to be one of those teachers that gets stuck, feeling bored and confined in their role, and I admire him for that. He’s also studying this summer to take his real estate license test, which is great for professions like his where he has a few months off at a time to dedicate to it.

As for house hunting, we looked at five new ones last weekend and all were misses for us except for maybe two. One has a floor plan, entry and living room that I really love, but needs a lot up updates that we probably wouldn’t be able to afford for a while. The second one is cheaper and will allow us to customize it more because of that. The cheaper one is owned by someone Justin knows personally and we were able to tour it before it goes on the market, so it may be in our best interest to latch onto that one since it’s potentially more obtainable. I’ll keep you guys updated, but in the meantime, please keep your fingers crossed for us! Also, I’m still actively mad about our apartment screwing us over on rent (you can read about that here if you missed it), but I’ll save you guys from that rant.

To throw another wrench in the fire, we found out that Justin needs to have surgery next week to fix his hernia. We discovered it a few months back, but we didn’t address it since it wasn’t bothering him and we were dealing with some tests for other unknown health issues for him at the time. Poor guy has had a rough year health wise! Thankfully, he isn’t in any pain yet and it’s not anything too serious, but it does need to be taken care of to prevent future issues. I’ve been informed that he’s SUPER loopy on anesthesia (flashback to having his wisdom teeth removed in high school where he later announced at a 4H meeting he was leading that he was “high”), so this should be fun for me (lol). I pray that everything goes smoothly and he has a speedy recovery, though the doctor says he’ll need 4-6 weeks.

As for what’s going on with me, work is going well and I’ve been taking on more freelance design clients, which I’m really enjoying doing on the side! This is helping me make some extra money too to pay our up-charged rent (*major eye roll*) and save for our future house, which I’m thankful for. I get so excited to help someone’s brand come together and make them feel confident in their blog and online presence. This sparks so much creativity in me, helps me feel inspired and even boosts motivation in my own blog too! If you’re interested in my services, learn more here.

Thanks so much for catching up with me! As you can see, it’s been a crazy last few months and I’m hoping things settle soon so we can take a breather — but I think we can all agree that life is always filled with surprises, so it’s best to remind ourselves that everything happens for a reason and to stay positive. Have a great weekend!

P.S. Shop the swimsuit (top is on sale for $11!) and the sunglasses I’m wearing on my Shop My Instagram page.
