Friday Favorites

Hi friends! We made it to Friday and to celebrate, I’ve got LOTS of binge-worthy stuff for you! This post is jampacked with fun content that has made me laugh, cry and dive deep into research over the past two weeks. Without further ado, let’s jump into it!

SHOWS

Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez (Netflix)
This is a 3-part docuseries that you’ve got to add to your watch list. I wasn’t really familiar with this case (probably because I was in college when it occurred and was in my own little bubble without TV), so I was really hearing everything for the first time as it unfolded in the documentary. I was listening to one of the episodes on my drive to work last week and was so into it that I almost ran out of gas. The indicator sound went off and I was like WOW Abby… Needless to say, VERY good. I finished it in less than 24 hours and I’d give it a 10/10.

Cheer (Netflix)
I heard about this on Twitter, watched it and loved it! As someone who has never had an interest in cheerleading myself (aside from writing it as my dream job on my on a preschool Q&A project lolz), I have a ton of respect for it. What made this documentary stand out was the journeys it highlighted of some of the team members, overall coming from nothing or a rough background and turning it into something. You may cry!

The Circle (Netflix)
My friend convinced me to watch this and as cheesy as it is, Justin and I are hooked! It’s one of the shows where you’re thinking “okay this is dumb and a waste of my time…” and then all of the sudden you’re way too invested in the stupid plotline. We haven’t laughed this hard at a show together in a while and just when you think things are starting to get repetitive or predictable, they throw in a curveball! I’d give it a chance. It’s in the same category as stuff like Jersey Shore to me: prime junk TV. 👍🏻

Hunting JonBenet’s Killer: The Untold Story (Hulu)
I thought I’d watched absolutely everything under the sun about the JonBenet case, but this was a new one for me! I believe it came out last spring and it investigates some suspects that I hadn’t heard a ton about previously. If you’re a fan of this case, you’ll love it!

At The Heart of Gold: Inside the US Gymnastics Scandal (HBO)
I actually watched a good chunk of this trial as it was going on at my old job when we had to work at the Hyatt Hotel for a bit (lol, long story). The will forever me so shocking to me and I hate what he put so many girls and young women through that they will now live with for a lifetime. It’s also crazy that my local Indy Star broke the story!

2020 (Hulu)
I honestly think I’ve been watching 2020 since I was a small child. What can I say, I love a good nonfiction! 😉 Below are a few episodes (all from Season 42) I watched this week that I found VERY interesting and entertaining!

Apartment 801: Kendall Rae (YouTube)
I’ve been watching Kendall for years and she’s one of my favorite YouTubers, and let me just say, I was absolutely blown away by her new series. She sticks to sit-down videos and vlogs normally, but she launched this new documentary-style content that really hit it out of the park. The production/editing is on point and I’m genuinely so proud of her. Anyway, not only is this produced well, but the case and storyline are incredibly interesting. You. Must. Watch.

PODCASTS

Culpable podcast
After watching Kendall’s videos on the case, I got sucked in and wanted to explore it even more. I found a podcast series on it and I’ve been binging it hardcore. As I type this, I’m already 8 episodes in and I don’t plan on slowing down! Call me Detective Abby at my desk at work, anywhere I drive… you name it.

Podcasts on Indy Blue’s Pregnancy
As someone who literally CANNOT WAIT to be a mom, I find myself getting sucked into pregnancy-related content all the time. If you follow Indy, you know she announced she was pregnant after hiding it for 7 or so months recently (very Kylie Jenner of her) and it’s been a whirlwind. She ended up being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes recently AND she gave birth to her baby six weeks or so early a few days ago, so things get even crazier. There are two podcasts out (that I know of) about the first portion of her pregnancy journey and it’s interesting if you follow her or are interested in this kind of stuff.

What We Said podcast: Confessions episode
This made me laugh out loud — specifically the toenail one and luggage one, which you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about when you listen to it. Let me tell ya, people are ruthless and cringey.

RANDOM

Snickerdoodle Blizzard from Dairy Queen
Justin and I were craving ice cream, so we ordered blizzards to be delivered and I tried the snickerdoodle one. I was VERY pleased with how much cookie dough was in it! It’s definitely really sugary, but if you’re into that and enjoy cinnamon, you’ll probably love it. I’d get it again for sure.

Quest Bars: Chocolate Peanut Butter
I’m not the best eater, especially during the workday. These help me get in some extra protein and are easy to grab and eat while I’m stuck in traffic during my commute. Very filling, in my opinion!

Those are all of my recent favorites! If you check out any of these, let me know your thoughts. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and I hope you have a fun weekend!
