Tips For Working From Home With a Puppy
Hi friends! It’s been a whirlwind of a week and I’ll recap you on everything that’s been going on soon, but I wanted to do a post today sharing some helpful tips that I found myself researching when I first began working from home with my pup. Of course all dogs are different and require different types of distractions/attention, but these are the things that work best for Lucia in case your pup is the same way!
Rawhide bones
No treats keep Lucia busy as long as rawhide bones do, so I definitely recommend these! It takes her an hour or two to chew these and sometimes they wear her out enough that she’ll stop, do something else and come back to it. If she gets tired of it after a while, putting a little peanut butter on it (even the tiniest bit) helps occupy her again. Be sure to check the bag to see how many of these your dog can have a week and use them sparingly as needed.
Puzzle toys
These puzzle toys are fun for her and usually more interesting than a regular toy. It essentially has smaller toys inside of one larger one that can be pulled out through different holes. The small toys in the set she has have squeakers, so that encourages her to play with it and to try to get them out. It works like a charm! We got ours at TJ Maxx, but Amazon has some great ones too!
Kong
The Kong is Lucia’s all-time favorite. She loves peanut butter or a small treat inside that she has to work to get out. You can freeze it to make it take even longer and it really is fun for them. If you’ve never tried one of these, you HAVE to!
Heating pad
Again, check to make sure if this is safe for your dog, but sometimes I’ll put this on low and place it under a blanket for Lucia to lay on and help her settle down for a nap. It’s super comfy for her and it helps encourage her to lay still for a while. She’s obsessed with it and plops down on it anytime I’m using it too.
A handful of dog food in the yard
If she’s really being fiesty and hard to entertain, this is a last resort for me. I toss a handful of dog food into our grass and it entertains her for a good 30 minutes while she walks around trying to find all the pieces. It’s as if you’re feeding a farm animal or something, so it makes me laugh every time I do it. Make sure you spread it out and don’t throw it all in one place.
Move their bed
Sometimes she’s all over me when I’m trying to work from the couch, so in those instances, I will move and sit somewhere higher up like at our kitchen island or dining room table and lay her bed by my feet so she can settle down and take a nap while still being close to me.

Those are my go-to’s! I hope this helps if you’re looking for some solutions for your rambunctious pup when you’re home with a long list of work to do. 😂 If you have any other tips that work for you, please share! Thanks so much for reading and check back for another new post later this week!
