Second Trimester Update

Second Trimester Update

It’s the final countdown! In about 12 short weeks, we’ll be welcoming our sweet baby into the world and I seriously can’t believe it. Motherhood is just around the corner and I can’t wait to meet her! Today’s post is a recap on my second trimester, from how I’m feeling to my favorite moments, body changes and what I’m looking forward to most.

Second Trimester Update

How far along are you now?
I’m officially 28 weeks today, the first day of my third trimester! Baby girl is the size of as eggplant and is 14.8 inches long and 2.2 lbs, according to my Bump app. I have my glucose test this week.

Pregnancy symptoms?
My skin is still pretty bad bumps-wise. My back was where it was the worst at 20 weeks, but now that’s mostly cleared up and it’s moved to my chest, neck and forehead — not fun! Again, not cystic, just raised and a bit red. Acid reflux/heartburn has been a battle too, as well as the occasional lower back and abdomen pain. My feet get swollen now as well and I’ve been lactating for a couple months! No stretch marks yet, but I do have lots of belly hair and the faintest linea nigra above my belly button possible, if that’s even what it is because it’s soooo light.

Weight gain?
After losing almost 10 lbs in my first trimester from being so sick, gaining it back and then some, I’m about 15 lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight. I’d say I’ve been averaging about a pound a week lately.

Maternity clothes?
I finally sucked it up and bought some because I was tired of wearing the same few flowy dresses over and over. I didn’t realize how much I liked wearing pants until I couldn’t fit into any of mine (other than some sweats and leggings) anymore! I must say, it’s frustrating looking through your closet trying to find something that fits when you’re sick of wearing the same small handful of things that do. Biker shorts have definitely been my favorite during this hot summer.

Sleep?
I’ve been sleeping pretty bad most nights with the occasional okay night. I toss and turn a ton and I wake up with lower back pain frequently, though not as much the past week or so. I guess she’s training me for when she gets here!

Best moment?
Seeing our baby at the 20-week ultrasound and seeing our nursery come together! We haven’t had any ultrasounds since yet, so I really cherish that one. And there truly is no feeling like seeing the room together that you’re preparing for your child. Wild.

Weird pregnancy moment?
I now hit my belly on things because I’m not very aware of its size, like when I’m doing laundry, squeezing past countertops, etc. Also, when I hug Justin, my belly hits him before my arms do! 😂 Oh, and walks are feeling a bit different these days. I joke with Justin that after we’ve been going for a bit, I walk as if I just got off a horse (AKA waddling). I honestly think I pulled something in my groin last week when we took Lucia for a walk because I wanted to get home before it started raining (lol).

Baby movement?
So much! I can see my belly doing waves sometimes. My belly button has been an outie for the majority of my pregnancy, but when she moves a ton while I’m laying down, my belly button will suddenly sink really deep (it’s honestly kind of scary looking) and then push out again. It’s crazy to watch!

Food cravings?
I have yet to have anything I’d consider a “craving” (like I NEED THIS or I’ll go insane type of thing), but I do especially enjoy chocolate milk and Hershey’s bars.

Anything making you queasy?
Nothing in particular — I’m nauseous here and there from acid reflux (which sometimes gets REALLY bad) or when I need to eat something, so I’m pretty much always snacking throughout the day to combat that.

Favorite products?
I haven’t been using anything new (just my belly better and oil for stretch marks that I talked about in my First Trimester Update). However, I will say my heating pad is my best friend! I’ve always been a big heating pad user pre-pregnancy (I liked to put it on my feet when I had migraines), but now it’s essential. I bring it to work with me and it helps with aching and cramping quite a bit.

Something you’re looking forward to?
My baby shower! With the pandemic still in full swing, we’re doing an open house outdoors (weather permitting) with mask-wearing and social distancing. For those who can’t travel or aren’t comfortable attending, we’re doing a virtual shower the next day so we can still see everyone. Though this is much different than what my baby shower likely would have looked like any other year, I’m excited nonetheless!

__________

That’s a recap on my second trimester! Overall, even through the aches, pains and lack of sleep, I’ve loved being pregnant. It’s truly so cool to me that my body is able to do this and I get to experience something so special. I love having my little baby girl so close to me and with me all day long. She feels like my little friend, as we obviously experience everything together! It creates a little bit of extra excitement in my everyday life.

Anyway, thanks so much for stopping by my blog and following along on my pregnancy journey. Our little lady is due to arrive around November 17, and I know it’ll be here before we know it. If you’ve enjoyed my content, I hope you continue to follow along! Enjoy the rest of your day and check back for another new post soon!
