REVEAL: Our 2018 Christmas Card + Basic Invite Review
It really is the little things in life that mean the most. Putting together and sending out our Christmas card every year has quickly become one of my favorite holiday traditions. From coming up with the photo concept to matching it with the perfect customized design, I find every little detail to be so much fun. Today’s post is all about our 2018 Christmas card with Basic Invite with an honest review of the company included, who has so kindly provided our cards for the last two seasons!
BASIC INVITE REVIEW
Let’s get real here — Christmas cards are not a life necessity, so if I’m going to be spending money on something like this, I want to know my money is going toward a product that is well made and looks exactly how I expect it to. When putting together your Christmas card, you want a service that’s going to make the process worry free with a variety of designs to choose from that are bound to match your photo, with easy customization and fast shipping.
This is our second year doing a Christmas card, both from Basic Invite (check out last year’s here). Today’s post is going to go further into depth as to why I choose to get our cards from them and for what reasons I recommend you guys consider doing so as well. First, Basic Invite has over 500 Christmas and holiday card designs (and cards for every other occasion too!), and below are some of the company’s perks.
Almost Unlimited Colors
You guys, they offer SO many color options — over 180! If you want a hot pink Christmas card, you can do that. The website has an instant preview feature as well so you can play around with the colors and change the wording to see exactly how it’s going to look before it gets printed. Not every invite service has this many options, so it’s a pretty cool feature! I changed our card’s background color to pistachio and I love how it turned out.
Over 40 Different Colors of Envelopes
Not only can you make your invitations any color you want, there are also over 40 different envelope colors to choose from. All of their envelopes are peel and seal as well, so no licking necessary! Justin and I went with ivory envelopes this year to help them stand out a tiny bit in everyone’s mailboxes, but still neutral.
Foil
If you want your invites to shine, Basic Invite offers foil holiday cards in gold, silver and rose gold. You can also choose whether the foil is flat or raised, so that just adds to the many customizations you can add to your card to make it totally unique to you and your family.
Custom Samples
Basic Invite is one of the few websites that offers customers the option to order a printed sample of your invitation, allowing you to see exactly what it will look like and how it will feel before ordering all of them. If you’ve never ordered invitations before and are unsure of what type of paper/finish you want, this is super helpful!
Address Capturing Service
If you’re sending something out to a mass quality of people (like wedding invitations, especially), you’ll want to take advantage of this. Essentially, they offer an address capturing service that allows customers to simply share a link on social media, via email, etc. to request their friends and family’s addresses. These addresses will then be stored in your account so you can refer back to the list whenever you’d like. I can’t express how amazing this is if you need to send a birthday present at a random time in the year but can’t remember the person’s address, you always have this database to refer back to! Basic Invite offers recipient address printing at no cost on all Christmas card orders!
OUR CARD
We’re so happy with how our Christmas cards turned out this year! Since it’s our first year in our house, I thought about doing a picture outside of it, then decided against it for a few reasons — one being I wanted to share them with you guys without showing any creeps on the internet exactly what our house looks like (lol, but for real), and the second reason is we don’t really have any outdoor Christmas decor this year to make the photo festive. Instead, we decided to do a picture inside by our tree showing a bit of our indoor space. Just like last year, we actually took this picture on a self-timer, so just imagine me running back in forth to jump in the frame. 🤣
The design we ended up choosing is the Winter Watercolor one customized with our last name and the year. As I mentioned, I changed the background color and found that our photo really popped beautifully with the soft green shade. It made it feel classically festive without a bunch of bright red everywhere, which is so me! I also added a pistachio envelope liner for an extra little touch, which also gave the sealed card a nice weight to it. LOVE! If you’re still wanting to order cards for this year, take advantage of the deal below!
