My Experience on Ohio’s Butler County Donut Trail

My Experience on Ohio's Butler County Donut Trail

Hey everyone! I was invited by Butler County to visit and explore everything the area has to offer last weekend (a blog post is coming on everything we did!), including the Butler County Donut Trail. Essentially it’s a “trail” for us sweet lovers to visit a list of 12 bakeries and donut shops in the area, complete a donut passport and get cool merch once you complete it. Today I’m sharing the five shops we visited, my favorite donuts I tried + my honest review of the entire experience.

WHAT’S A DONUT TRAIL?

Butler County describes it as:

“Part road trip, part foodie adventure! Go on a delicious trip where you’ll experience 12 mom-and-pop donut shops, and earn a sweet T-shirt reward in Butler County, Ohio.”

Watch this video to get a better feel for it!

How fun, right?! The trail includes 12 shops across the county, all featuring a variety of specialty donuts and yummy classics, so there’s something for everyone. You can download the trail map and passport here. which you’ll need to complete the trail. Upon finishing, visit the BCVB or mail your passport in to claim your t-shirt and unlock Donut Trail discounts, which is awesome for revisiting and purchasing from your favorite stops along the way.

Some of the many fun flavors you’ll find along the way are:My Experience on Ohio's Butler County Donut Trail

  • S’Mores
  • Fruity Pebbles
  • Tiger Tails
  • Cheesecake
  • Reese’s (you can find this one at Kelly’s Bakery — it was my favorite one I tried!)
  • German Chocolate
  • Maple Bacon
  • Cronuts
  • Banana Pudding
  • Apple Cider
  • Orange Juice
  • Pineapple Fritter

To be completely honest, I would choose donuts/cake for lunch over a burger or pasta any day, so this trail was kinda made for me. When I was invited on this trip, I couldn’t have been more excited to have an excuse to eat strictly donuts for the first half of the day. We hit the road at 8 a.m. hungry and excited to see what the trail was like! Below are the shops we visited — you can also follow along with our trip on my Travel Instagram Story highlight.

Those are all the stops we made on the trail! The pre-arranged itinerary for our trip included other sites and attraction throughout the county as well, so they included just five stops so we’d be able to explore other things around town. If you’re a but more adventurous, there’s a Butler County Donut Trail Cycle Challenge coming up on September 1 where you can bike to some of the locations, either a 28 mile ride or a 58 mile ride. If you consider yourself a foodie whatsoever or just love a good donut, this trail is definitely worth the trip. The experience was unlike anything I’ve ever done before and it’s something the whole family can enjoy. If you’re wondering how anyone could possible eat 12 donuts within a few hours, if you’re like me, you probably can’t! I suggest getting a box at each and taking them home so you can enjoy them over the next couple days and share them with others. We went on a Saturday and our donuts were still good through Monday. If you’ve got a free weekend ahead and are looking to plan a trip or just a fun activity, Butler County, Ohio is beautiful and the trail didn’t disappoint!

Have any of you visited the area? Would you go on the trail? As I mentioned, be on the lookout for another blog post coming within the next few weeks sharing everything else we did (and would recommend) during our trip! Butler County seriously has so much to offer and I can’t wait to share it all with you!
