Inspiration for Clay’s 1st Birthday

Clay’s 1st birthday is nearing 3 months away (!!!!) and though I wouldn’t call her turning one necessarily “exciting” for me as her mom, I am excited to celebrate her first year of life. I’ve never really had a specific idea in mind of what I wanted her first birthday to look like previously, but I did end up finding some inspiration through Clay’s wardrobe (particularly a little daisy outfit she has), the colors of her nursery and some cute ideas I saw on Pinterest. Keep reading for the themes I considered as well as what I plan to include.
I’m in the very early, initial stages of party planning, so I don’t expect her party to look exactly like this inspiration board — but it’s a start!
The other main theme I considered was shells/beach. The shell theme was one I really liked (she has some clothing with shells on it, a shell pillow + beach prints in her room), but all the decor I found online leaned too much toward mermaids, which I didn’t want to do. Because of so much of the shell stuff being very iridescent and mystical, I’d have to make a lot of custom stuff to achieve the look I would want, which I’m not sure I’m ready to take on right now. Maybe for a future birthday — or perhaps I’ll change my mind, gain some momentum and want to do it this year. 😂
Alternatively, I’ve found a lot more stuff online that I LOVE that goes with this daisy, flower power theme. I’m not sure what to call it… it’s girly and boho…? You tell me! I particularly love this balloon kit that I found on Etsy and I think a whole party centered around these colors would be really cute.
Her birthday is in November, so chances are the weather will be cold and we’ll be ~partying~ indoors. I imagine we’ll host it at our house as well. Here are my general ideas:
- Virtual invitations
- Cake for everyone + a smash cake for Clay (maybe daisies for the big cake and ombre for Clay’s?)
- Possibly sugar cookies from Blondie’s, like we had at our baby shower
- Balloon arch — shaping them into a C would be fun!
- Some sort of large Clay Willa sign
- Tassels and/or pom pom daisies for her high chair
- Maybe a tulle daisy dress for her?
- Keepsake party hat — I love these felt ones and this one
Additionally, as Justin and I are big Friends fans and we just finished the series for the 5th+ time, we think it would be fun to have everyone film a video clip at the party that we can compile and show to Clay on her 18th birthday, like Ross and Rachel did for Emma. I don’t know where technology will be in 18 years, but it would be so special to watch. We’ll see if we end up doing it!
That sums up where my head is with the party so far. I anticipate I may be doing more blog/social posts along the way with DIYs and details as it gets closer! What theme are you doing for your little one’s first birthday? Leave a comment below!
*UPDATE (Nov 2021): Clay’s birthday party was on November 6th and here are links to everything we used + additional options:
