Friday Favorites

Welcome back to the blog & happy Friday! If your week has been as busy as mine (+ adjusting to Justin’s back-to-school schedule on top of it after being home all summer), you’re thrilled to see the weekend decided to make an appearance. In today’s Friday Favorites post, I’m sharing everything I’ve been loving over the past few weeks including the most comfortable $20 denim skirt, in addition to an unrelated life lesson blurb following the death of a family member this week.

Target Universal Thread Denim Skirt
After wearing the one denim skirt I owned to death this year, I decided I needed to add another one to my wardrobe. I was on the hunt for something light wash, raw cut and not too short for my long frame so I could wearing it for all occasions — including work. I stumbled across this one a target trip to buy a hair straighten ONLY (isn’t that how it always happens?) and decided to get it since it was everything I wanted and only $20. I tried it on when I got home and it fits like a glove! It’s stretchy and form fitting in all the right places (at least for me), and it’s going to be there perfect summer-to-fall transition piece. If you’re in the market for one, I suggest trying it on!

Serial Podcast
I know, I know, I’m so behind on listening to Serial. A ton of people have recommended it to me and I finally listened to the entire Season 1 last week and was OBSESSED. It’s so good! I love the format of it and it kept me intrigued the entire time, while also still being able to work during it. For those that don’t know, it follows the case of a high school senior that was strangled and buried in a local park in 1999 where her ex-boyfriend was convicted for the crime, but still maintains his innocence. The host researches the case, speaking directly to the alleged killer and witnesses. If you’re a podcast and true crime lover, this is a no-brainer choice! You can find in on the podcast app.

Crime Shows + Documentaries: Crime Watch Daily
I discovered Crime Watch Daily’s YouTube channel recently and have been watching tons of episodes, usually while getting ready in the morning. Unlike a lot of other crime shows uploaded to YouTube, these ones are all high-def and are great quality. The episodes are usually broken up into four parts and they’re set up as a playlist, so they’ll play one after the other without you having to search for them. Every episode I’ve clicked on so far has been a case I’ve never seen before, which is pretty impressive considering how much crime TV I’ve watched. Check it out!

That’s all for this week! For more recommendations, check out my previous Friday Favorites posts. I hope you all have a great weekend — Justin and I may try to look at some houses (cross your fingers for us) and we’re visiting his mom for her birthday!

Our last family reunion in 2016

On another note, I want to mention this as a reminder to always cherish your loved ones. My Great-Aunt Peggy died yesterday after a two year battle with cancer, diagnosed shortly after this photo was taken — following the death of my Great-Uncle Wayne, her husband, two months ago. Coming from a small, close-knit family, this was a devastating loss we all knew was coming, but hoped it wouldn’t. Peggy is easily the funniest (and most fun) woman I’ve ever known, without even trying. She didn’t know what embarrassment was, and would say whatever was on her mind and would ask any question that she could think of, no matter how mortifying it was for the rest of us. 😂 She even paraded my cousin Caitlin and I around the Publix she worked at introducing her “cute nieces” to all the single boys. She would put weird accessories on while shopping with us in Forever 21, scream our names across the store and dance around. She was unapologetically herself, always. I’ll miss them both dearly. In saying this, remember to always make time for your loved ones and tell them how much they mean to you. Life goes by so fast.
