We celebrated our sweet Clay Willa’s first birthday yesterday! Though her birthday isn’t until tomorrow, we had friends and family over on Saturday for a daisy-themed party at our house with lunch, cake and gifts. This was the first party I’ve ever really thrown (and I think the only first birthday party I’ve ever attended), and though it was a little stressful, I had a lot of fun planning it. Here are my thoughts, photos + details!

I LOVED my outfit! As a SAH/WFH mom, I never do my hair, makeup and put on a nice outfit anymore, so I really felt like a million bucks (lol). I searched several stores online for an outfit that would match the theme, would coordinate with Clay’s dress and be comfortable, and I ended up deciding on this satin dress. It fit me like a glove and was so silky soft and easy to move around in. Last minute, I had a vision of pairing it with tall white cowboy boots, so I searched high and low for ones that could be shipped in time for the party and I really love them! I had to go a full size down because they didn’t carry these in my size, but I was hopeful they would still fit because all the reviews said to size down. I agree with the reviews — they fit well!

Her cakes turned out so perfect! We had Taylor Made Cakery make them, who also made my bridal shower cupcakes and wedding cake. She’s been so great in the past, so it only made sense to have her make our daughter’s first birthday cakes too. We did a larger funfetti cake for guests and a strawberry smash cake for Clay. I sent Taylor some inspo pics and she hit the nail on the head. I would say they were too pretty to eat… but if you know me, you know I love cake and could never say that. 🤪 The pink to peach ombre is truly *chef’s kiss.*

I ordered this custom banner from Amazon and I highly recommend it! It was 20-some bucks and you can have it say whatever you want and choose from a variety of color options and symbols to add. I like that since it doesn’t say Happy Birthday, we can use it as decor in her bedroom post-party if we want. I found it to be the perfect finishing touch to tie the theme together.

Also, if you plan on doing a balloon garland, you’ve got to get a balloon pump. It’s game changing and it cut our blow-up/assembly time in half (at least). We made it the night before the party after Clay went to bed so we could focus on other stuff day-of. Though they are tedious, I really do love balloon garlands for pulling the party’s color scheme together and making a statement.

Clay’s sweet little dress is from Reverie Threads (runs a little big for size 12-18 months). For it being tulle, she really didn’t tug at it like I thought she might and she seemed totally comfortable in it. It was so adorable on her and she looked like a little princess. 🥺

Winnie James Co. sent me the CUTEST accessories for Clay (hat, wand and high chair banner) that I’m obsessed with! I found her shop a few months back when I started planning for the party and I included their hats in my inspo board post and so many of you love them now too! These were the perfect touches for her party and they’re such amazing quality. One of my biggest tips is if you’re going to get custom items, get ones like these that can be keepsakes or used as decor in your child’s room afterward!

She was pretty delicate with her cake and didn’t start throwing it until towards the end. 😂

Tip: if you’re attaching balloons to a wall, definitely use command strips! We had to add tape to the seals of these to keep them inflated, but they were great otherwise for the price.

Clay was so happy and had so much fun at her party, especially when considering she’s not used to being around that many people at once. She opened presents, tried cake for the first time and got to play with everyone. We couldn’t have asked for a better first birthday celebration for her! Thank you to everyone who came, sent gifts and helped celebrate with us. I feel so blessed to be her mom and I can’t believe she’s one. 🥺💕
