Why I Chose the IKEA Antilop High Chair with Yeah Baby Goods Accessories

Hi friends! I wanted to dedicate a post to our most recent “big” baby item purchase (“big” as in milestone, not price): Clay’s high chair! This is an item I chose not to put on our baby registry back when I was pregnant because I truly couldn’t decide which high chair I wanted, and therefore spent countless hours researching and watching reviews on different ones. As you can see, I ultimately decided on the IKEA Antilop with Yeah Baby Goods accessories for several reasons, and here’s why along with details on cost, what I like about it + more!

First things first, there were several things I was looking for in an ideal high chair:

  • Easy to clean
  • Not too clunky/doesn’t take up too much room
  • Comfortable and practical
  • Not overly expensive
  • One that would blend into our home looks-wise, since it will be out all the time

After looking into probably 10 different high chairs, I narrowed it down to the Stokke Tripp Trapp ($270) and the Ikea Antilop ($20), which could not be on more opposite ends of the price spectrum. I loved that the Tripp Trapp came in multiple wood color options and they seem to somewhat justify the price by saying it’s designed for years of use as your baby grows. However, the more I looked into it, the less I liked it. It seemed to not be worth the high price for my specific needs, on the heavier side and maybe not as comfortable as some other options, though the overall consensus from others seems to be that it’s a good high chair nonetheless.

Everyone raves about the IKEA one, but with an incredibly low price point of $20, I wasn’t sold on the idea that it would be sturdy and that it would handle wear and tear. I soon learned some amazing perks about it that make it as popular as it is. The reviews said it is easy to clean, comfortable for babies, doesn’t take up a ton of room, easy to move around, etc. The Yeah Baby Goods accessories fix the flaws that the high chair has, with the most prominent one being the absence of a footrest. In the end, Sarah Yara’s video reviewing it sold me on choosing this one (Dad Verb’s video reviewing a variety of high chairs was really informative in my decision-making process too). I ordered mine directly from IKEA’s website, though you can also get it on Amazon for an elevated price. Don’t forget to get the support pillow too ($6, sold separately), because I did and I didn’t realize until after everything else was delivered! Whoops.

Once I purchased it, I skipped on over to Yeah Baby Goods‘ website to select what accessories I wanted. They truly have the cutest stuff and they make the high chair so much more functional for your baby, not to mention also very aesthetically pleasing for home. I ended up deciding on ones that I really thought would complement our dining area and kitchen best. I chose the:

High chair total: $113 (not including tax or shipping)

Shipping took quite a while, honestly way longer than I anticipated. Our high chair ended up sitting in its box in our garage for weeks until the accessories arrived. Since my order included pre-order items (the leg covers and footrest, I believe), the rest of my order wasn’t shipped out until those items were in stock. It ended up taking about four weeks. I didn’t mind too much since we have a Bumbo and I used that in the meantime, but I just wanted to mention that for those of you who may be eager to get your items and get started, understandably!

Once it all arrived, I was a little nervous about putting the leg covers on since I’m a bit of a perfectionist and didn’t want to get stuck looking at bubbles/errors on the legs every day. I followed the brand’s tutorial online and it was pretty easy! Make sure you put the seams where they tell you to, and to be honest, any small bubbles I may have had are truly unnoticeable — so don’t be scared! Additionally, the footrest is super nice quality and the placemat and cushion cover look great. Everything is easy to clean and the accessories definitely elevate the high chair in the best way. I’m a fan!

If you’re considering the IKEA high chair + accessories and you’re not sure if you want to pull the trigger or not, I recommend doing your own research and considering what your needs are space-wise, for functionality, etc. I definitely think different high chairs work better for different people, but I don’t see this one being a huge miss for anyone. I’m happy with our choice and Clay loves it too!
