Things To Try This Week
After doing some thinking on what I wanted today’s blog post to be, I realized it’s been FOREVER since I’ve done a Things To Try This Week! If you’re unfamiliar with this series, it’s one I started back in the early stages of my blog in September 2015 (woah, flashback) sharing Pinterest ideas to incorporate into your week. Since my last one was in December, this is long overdue — keep reading for recipes, fashion trends, hairstyles + makeup to try!

FOOD
I probably shouldn’t be writing this post while I’m hungry because it’s seriously SO HARD to only pick three recipes to include. I like light snacks and meals for summer so I don’t feel weighed down by overly greasy foods — but don’t get me wrong, you’ll definitely still find me at Steak n’ Shake on multiple occasions this summer because I’m a fast-food girl at heart. If you’re super into fruits and veggies in the warmer months like me, give each of these a try!
- Salted, Chocolate-Dipped Mandarin Slices (via Deliciously Yum)
- Crispy Baked Parmesan Asparagus Fries with Creamy Lemon Dipping Sauce (via Wishes and Dishes)
- Bacon, Egg and Avocado Salad (via Gourmet Traveller)
HAIR
Though I usually wear my hair just down and curly, sometimes I get bored with it and throw some braids into the mix to switch it up — and to conceal oily third-day hair. The three styles above are some of my recent faves I come across and one or more should work with just about every hair length. I do the top and bottom braids all the time, but not in the pulled-apart thickness shown, so I’m inspired to recreate these looks this week!
FASHION
If you’ve been keeping up with my Instagram (specifically this post), you’ve seen me style my husband’s dress shirts on days when I get bored with my own wardrobe, and I love the look of it! As a teacher, his collection of dress shirts is quite full, so I have tons of options to choose from. I usually pair them over a denim skirt or something fitted (skinny jeans, cropped pants, etc.) so the outfit doesn’t swallow me. I like to roll up the sleeves, tie the front it in a knot and layer some dainty necklaces for a laid-back girly vibe. Don’t be scared to explore your husband, brother or dad’s wardrobe (if they’re cool with it, of course) — there are so many possibilities!
MAKEUP
How pretty are these looks?! Glowy makeup is always in for summer and it’s a beauty trend that I look forward to every year. I mentioned a liquid illuminator I’ve been using in last week’s Friday Favorites post (linked below) and I couldn’t be happier with the results! You can start small by adding it to the high points of your face (cheekbones, brow bone, bridge of nose, Cupid’s bow, etc.), or mix a tiny bit into your foundation if you’re feeling brave and aren’t too oily/shiny naturally. Another fun thing to try is using a gold shimmery shadow all over the lid (be sure to take it under the lower lash line too) with no eyeliner for even more soft glow. Linked below are my favorite highlighting products.
