Target Jeans: Universal Thread Denim Review
Hi friends! I’ve been raving about Target’s jeans on Instagram the past few days, and I love their new collection so much that I wanted to dedicate an entire blog post to it! Like many of you, I’m on a budget while trying to pay off my student loans and buy a house with my husband (and while being a young married couple in general), so $200 jeans aren’t practical for me right now. If you love getting a lot of bang for your buck, keep reading for details on Target’s jeans from their new Universal Thread line that look and feel like Levi’s for a fraction of the price.
HELLO, UNIVERSAL THREAD
If you’re unfamiliar with the line, Universal Thread is a Target-exclusive women’s lifestyle brand featuring denim, tops, dresses, accessories and shoes that launched this year. Prices range from $5 to $39.99 and it’s geared to be all inclusive to fit every body type. Unfamiliar with the line, I didn’t go to Target last weekend planning to try on any jeans and only went for face powder (we all know how that goes 😂), but I happened to walk through the clothing section and was so pleasantly surprised by all the cute styles I saw. Not only did they look great, they felt great. I’ve been craving a pair of Levi’s 501 boyfriend jeans for a while, but I came to realize it may be possible (and cheaper!) to get something super similar right here at Target.
STYLES
I tried on five different styles and truly fell in love with all of them! I honestly think they have something for everyone (from 0 to plus sizes), including mid-rise, high-rise, cropped, full-length, raw cut… you name it! The boyfriend, girlfriend or “mom” jeans styles are super in right now, and for good reason because they’re so comfortable and effortless. Unlike skinny jeans, they don’t hug every inch of your legs and allow room to move (hello, food baby), while still hugging your curves at the right places for a great sillouhette. I always reach for my looser, high-waisted jeans most days because they’re easy to style and they keep me the most comfortable all day long. If you’re wanting to get the same pair I have, it’s the first one shown below.
SIZING
There are a few things to consider with sizing before purchasing these, especially if it’s been years since you’ve purchased Target denim like it has for me. I usually wear a size 5 or 26, but I’m closer to a 2 or 4 in Universal Thread jeans — more so a 2. With that being said, definitely size down a size or two. These jeans all have a looser fit anyway, so sizing will likely vary. If you’re planning on ordering them online, I suggest making a trip to the store to see what size you may be just to be safe.
HOW THEY WEAR
I find these jeans to be far higher quality than what you’re paying for (who doesn’t love that?!) and are comfortable throughout the entire day, which is something I always look for in a good pair of denim. Some jeans can stretch out and sag by the end of the day, but these truly don’t do that for me. In my opinion, they look and feel like a million bucks, and they’ve fulfilled my Levi’s craving. These are so cute paired with something more form-fitting on top (like a fitted tee), a crop-fit top or something you can tie up so you don’t lose your shape in the looser fit jeans. To be completely honest with you, I may be purchasing my fall denim exclusively from this line!
