Welcome back to the blog, friends! I finally got my hair cut back to the length I wanted a few weeks ago and I’ve felt so inspired with it ever since. A girl I follow on Instagram inspired me to try out the Bed Head Curlipop 1/2 Inch Styling Iron for textured, super natural looking curls and I documented my entire first impression and trial on Instagram — and now here on my blog, too! If you’re feeling your hair has been less than extraordinary lately and needs a little something extra to mix it up, keep reading for my review of Bed Head’s 1/2 inch curling iron and what products to use to make your curls frizz-free and last all day!

IGTV video

I totally have to credit Jaci Marie Smith for leading me in this direction to try the Bed Head Curlipop 1/2″ Tourmaline Ceramic Skinny Pop Styling Iron (BOY, is that a mouthful) to achieve the tight, super texturized, natural-looking curls you see in these photos. Since her hair is similar to mine in length, I was hopeful this style would work on my thick hair without giving me poodle vibes. If you haven’t heard or seen, I posted my first IGTV video last week (watch it here) showing my first time using this curling iron and sharing my initial thoughts on it — so you may want to watch that video first before continuing to read this post.

As for the price, this curling wand retails for $29.99. My current curling wand is a Conair one I purchased back in high school for around the same price and has served me well for years, so I think it’s worth every penny. I got mine from Ulta, but you can get it at places like Target and Amazon as well.

The wand is super light, feels sturdy and heats to one setting of 400 degrees with a simple on/off switch. I’m a long time wand user so I may be biased, but it’s very easy to use and great for avoiding the creases that curling irons with clamps can create. It comes with a glove for those that are new with wands so you can protect yourself from getting burnt while you get the hang of it. The cord is rubberized and is long, which is always nice and doesn’t limit you when finding a place to do your hair.

INITIAL THOUGHTS

Needless to say, I was so happy with the results. Texture and volume are the two big things I love most in any style, and this curling wand is truly a game changer for that — it’s been the most fun I’ve had in a while doing my hair! The curls were as tight as you’d expect, but running my fingers through them and allowing time for the curls to sit helps them look a little less done. To experiment with it, I also tried curling my hair the night before and sleeping with it in a big clip on top of my head to achieve looser second day curls, and it worked so well! I only had to touch up the front pieces and a few ends, as well as add in some product and I was good to go! This cut my morning routine in half.

STYLING PRODUCTS

After curling my hair with the wand, I knew it needed a little taming and time to settle into a slightly less curled look. My hair got a little larger on the ends then it was at my roots, so I found using a smoothing cream and sealing in the look with a finishing spray (along with a couple other products I really love) did the trick. Below are the products I used to tame the style to keep it looking fresh and effortless all day long.

…and that’s all! I hope this post inspires you to try new things with your hair, even if you think you’re only good at doing your’s a certain way — the possibilities are endless!

__________

Have you tried this curling wand? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this style! Side note: I want to say a huge THANK YOU to any and all of you who have followed me on Instagram over the weekend! After all the vulnerability I shared in my “How I Really Feel About My Follower Count” blog post last week, I finally reached my goal of 2,000 followers that I’ve been working toward since last fall. I know it’s just social media and following someone is such a meaningless act in the grand scheme of things, it helps grow this blogging business of mine and allows me to continue to experience so many amazing things that have come along since I started this space of mine on the internet three years ago — so thank you! Check back for a new post on Wednesday!
