Life Update: November 2018

Hey guys — happy Friday! With all the changes since the move to our house, I wanted to jump on here and give you guys an update, including why I’m writing this from the hospital right now. 😅

Like I said, I’m coming at you live from the hospital today while I wait for Justin to get out of surgery. If you kept up with me and my blog over the summer, you may know Justin had hernia surgery back in June, and to our surprise, we’re back again today to fix a second hernia on the opposite side that decided to make an appearance within the last month or two. This means he won’t be able to lift more than 15-20 pounds for the next 4-6 weeks (again), so we’re very glad that we’ve already moved because that would have made the process a whole lot harder.

We’ll be back next month for his third surgery this year, but this one will be for a hernia-like injury on his foot. Not exactly sure what it is since I wasn’t with him at the doctor that time, but I think that’s how they loosely described it. I hesitate to say that he’s had a lot of health issues over the last year because I know it could always be so much worse and what he’s had going on is still uncertain (he lost a lot of weight out of nowhere and we’re still not sure why — however, it’s completely unrelated to the hernias and foot thing), but I think by the time 2019 gets here he will have had 5 procedures/surgeries. For someone who’s been healthy his whole life (same with me), this is all pretty new to us, but we’re pushing through!

As for the house, we took our old couch, ottoman and bar stools to Goodwill on Wednesday, so our living room just got a whole lot bigger! The open space is so large now that I feel like we need something to fill it, so I’ll probably show that to you guys on my Instagram story this weekend so you can see what I’m talking about. The next big project that I need to tackle is painting our kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, and I must say I’m a little nervous about getting started because I’ve never done it before. My mom has done it a few times, so I think I’m going to have her help me get things rolling, then I’ll do the rest on my own. We picked out the prettiest blue/green-grey color and I’m so anxious to see it — I have’t even swatched it yet!

I’ve been so busy this past month (and even more these past few weeks) that I feel like I’m getting overwhelmed with my work, blog and freelance stuff for the first time. I’m finding myself falling behind on emails, forgetting things I need to do and not being as ahead on my work as I like to be. I think moving has played a role in that, but I’m going to prioritize getting organized again.

I think we may be putting our Christmas tree up this weekend, and I’ve NEVER but one up before Thanksgiving before! Our goal was to do it before Justin’s surgery, but we ended up not having time and now I want it up to fill that empty space — plus I love our tree and would be so happy to enjoy it for an extra week longer than normal! Since we don’t have a fireplace or mantle, we’ll have to get creative with where we hang our stockings. I’ll have posts on Christmas home decor, gift guides, etc. coming soon like I do every year!

That’s about all for today. Thanks for catching up with me & have a great weekend!
