Life Update: January 2019
Hey guys! Happy Friday! Justin and I are home eating Mexican take-out and watching Friends, and I thought it was time to do another life update. Keep reading for an update on Justin’s latest surgery, the results of my back/neck x-ray (yes, I FINALLY went to the chiropractor for my chronic migraines), a Netflix show we’ve been obsessed with this week + more!
As I mentioned, Justin had his third and final surgery of the year a couple weeks ago, this time on his foot. He had a weird ganglion cyst with fluid that developed on the outer side of his foot that had been bothering him for a while. The doctor said it would need to be removed at some point, so since we’d already met his deductible for the year, it was a good time to go ahead and take care of it. The doctor said it looked odd, so she sent it out for testing and it came back normal (🙌🏻). To our surprise, his recovery was pretty speedy as well. We thought he’d be in a boot for up to four or more weeks, but he got his stitches removed this week and is back to wearing his regular shoes! I’m hoping this year is a MUCH better one for him health-wise.
On another note, have any of you been watching “You” on Netflix? Justin and I started AND finished it this week and it was honestly wild. Basically it’s about this obsessive stalker guy — I don’t want to give away too much, but just know it’s creepy, it keeps you guessing and you’re going to have a hard time not binging it. Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell are in it (fun fact, he was one of my first childhood crushes when he was on the cover of M Magazine 🤣) and they’re both amazing in it. This really shows you how scary dating (and simply letting people close to you in your life) can be and now I’m going to be triple checking my locks every night. Go watch it!
Due to my chronic migraines, Justin and my family had been begging me to go to the chiropractor for years. After putting it off for so long, I finally went a couple weeks ago. They had me fill out a detailed questionnaire and they did X-rays of my back and neck, and let’s just say my body is jacked up. He thought I had been in an accident of some kind or had sustained some type of injury — uh, nope! In the first photo, you can see the curve in the center of my back between my shoulder blades. The second photo shows that my neck should be curved in more of a C shape like the pen mark, but mine is straight. My doctor seems to think my frequency (and potentially severity as well) of migraines could be cut in half by realigning my neck and back and relieving all that built up tension, but it will likely take a couple months. Now all the back pain I’ve had for years and had assumed was just a normal thing for me is all making sense. Don’t put off going to the doctor, you guys! Even if it’s just for peace of mind, you won’t regret going.
As you know if you read my last blog post, I’ve been knee deep in the Chris Watts case for weeks now. It’s completely taken over my life, and I’m not being dramatic when I say that. Like, at all. Any free time I have is spent listening to or watching videos on the case, and if I have other things to do, I always still have it playing in the background. I’ve spent HOURS upon HOURS doing this — I’m a little embarrassed to admit exactly how much, so I’ll leave that to the imagination. I think what draws me to this case so much is that I desperately want to understand it and why it happened, when in reality, this crime is never going to be something that anyone can comprehend. What he did to his family was so tragic, unnecessary and evil, and no matter how many perspective interviews I listen to or how much I analyze the relationships and mental state of everyone involved, it’s always going to be incomprehensible. Why he didn’t just get divorced, I will never understand. It’s so scary to me that things like this can happen to people you think you know so closely. Do we ever truly know someone? I’ve learned even more about the case since my post went up two days ago, so if you guys would like me to do follow-up posts or give updates on my Instagram story or something, let me know!
Well, that’s pretty much what I’ve been up to! I hope you all have enjoyed your time with family and friends over the holidays and are smoothly getting back into your routines. I’m excited for the new year, and I’m really content and just happy with life right now. How’ve you been? Let’s talk in the comments! Thanks so much for reading and have a great weekend!
