Life Update: August 2020
Hey guys! Now that I’m 6 months pregnant and we’re at the tail end of summer (woah), I wanted to sit down and catch up with you guys on life lately, what I’ve been up to, etc. Let’s chat!
As of right now, Justin goes back to work on August 17 (he’s a high school teacher), which is pretty crazy since he hasn’t been in school since March because of the pandemic. To be honest, I don’t know how I feel about it. Being pregnant has definitely changed my perspective on all of this, and as much as I want to not worry about getting sick, I’d rather be safe than sorry to protect our little one. I think we’re all a little worried that there’s going to be a big outbreak when all these kids get back together under one roof, but only time will tell (but if we’re being honest here, it seems pretty likely). Right now, his school is doing a hybrid schedule where half the kids come two days a week and the other half come a different two days with no students in the building on Wednesdays. Students also have the option to opt-out of in-person schooling and do it all online instead. It’ll be interesting for sure and I have a feeling this schedule will end up getting altered pretty quickly.
As for me, I’ve been working in-office 3 days a week from 8-5 and at home the other two days. It’s nice to have the balance of working from home some days, especially with my body’s aches and pains of being pregnant. After sitting at a desk all day (and mind you, my chair is comfortable — I’ve had uncomfortable ones in the past), my butt and back hurt, and my feet are finally starting to swell. 😅 I had to prop them up when I got home last week. I need to be better about getting up and walking around the office building more!
Something we’d been trying to figure out how to approach for the last couple of months is our baby shower. I want to have one, but with the state’s everchanging COVID restrictions and wanting everyone to feel and be safe (myself included!), it’s difficult to know what the right thing to do is. Again, I’d rather be safe than sorry, especially with a baby on the way. We’ve decided to do an open house to minimize the number of people together at one time, have everybody wear masks and social distance outside, weather permitting. This will allow us to still celebrate in our own way, take pictures and decorate a bit while minimizing our exposure. We’re going to follow up with a virtual shower the next day for those who can’t travel, aren’t comfortable coming, etc. There’s no right way to do anything as we’re all navigating this, but I do think this is our best option. If you’re pregnant right now too or have been during the pandemic, let me know how you approached this! Although it’s looking different than it would have otherwise, I’m excited regardless.
I haven’t given you guys an update on little Lucia in a while! She has been absolutely spoiled rotten being home with Justin and I (and now just Justin since I’m back to work 3 days a week) since March. I’ve loved being able to spend so much time with her and I miss her so much on the days I’m at the office. We have been leaving her home alone occasionally for a few hours at a time the past few months, so hopefully she won’t be in for too much of a shock when Justin goes back to work. We’ve chosen not to use her pen again and she’s been doing great so far! We actually set up our Lollipop baby monitor last time we left her so we could see what she was up to and she HOWLED for 30 straight minutes (um, didn’t know she was a howler?!?!), sending noise notifications to our phones indicating “baby is crying LOUD.” I think it’s funny too that she never lays on the furniture when we’re not there, and instead, she just walks around and sleeps in her own bed pretty much the whole time. As you can tell, we’re having a lot of fun with the baby monitor! 😂
My 27th birthday is coming up next month! I’ve never been a huge birthday person that I need to do something fun or have a party — as long as there’s chocolate cake with buttercream icing, I’m happy. It’s weird to now think that 26 was my last year without kids, but I can’t wait for the change and to meet our little cutie. This exact month last year is when I started really wanting to take this next step, and reflecting on that and where we are now about to welcome our daughter in 3 months is the craziest thing.
As for a quick update on my pregnancy, as I touched on, I’m starting to get uncomfortable. It’s definitely not all the time though and most of the time I’m fine at this point, but I am feeling some rib pressure and stretching, and sleep is not going well. All that fits me are my dresses, sweats and leggings, so I finally bit the bullet and ordered my first maternity clothes over the weekend. Some are just pregnancy-friendly and the others are maternity-specific, so I’m very curious to see how I like everything. It pains me to spend money on clothes that I’m going to wear short-term, but I’m also sick of not having anything to wear (lol, but really). I’ll likely share my thoughts on what I bought on my Instagram story!

That’s an update on my life! How have you guys been? Thanks so much for catching up with me & check back for another new post later this week!
