How to Stay Organized At Work + At Home
Staying organized allows you to maintain a clear head and work more effectively and efficiently. Here are a few quick tips and tricks I use to stay organized.
Make lists.
With your hectic day-to-day life, it’s easy to forget what needs to get done. Sitting down and making a list every morning or the night before helps you to gather your thoughts for the day, decide what needs to be accomplished, and know what to work toward during each portion of the day.
Use a planner.
I’m a big believer in using a planner. I use the Daily Designer, which is a monthly and daily planner that provides you with a separate page for each day containing a timed schedule and a to-do list. It’s extremely helpful for planning out your schedule for the day and jotting down what tasks you need to accomplish. It’s important to always write down deadlines to assure that tasks get done on time, and a planner is the perfect place for that.
Find a place for everything – and keep it there.
It’s crucial to have a clutter-free work space. I’m known for having an incredibly clean desk, so I can definitely help you out with this one. The important thing to do is to make sure everything (and I mean everything) has a place. I like to use a book organizer or book end to gather all of my books, notepads, and folders in one location and a writing utensil holder with separate compartments to hold pencils, pens, highlighters, sticky tabs, paper clips, etc.
Take time to clean up.
At the end of the work day before you head home or go to bed, clean up your space. Put everything back where it belongs and simply tidy up. This will give you a clean slate to work from the next day and will help keep your space consistently organized.
