House Update #3: New Furniture!
Welcome back to the blog! Though I’ve been keeping you guys pretty updated on the house on social media, some of the big improvements haven’t made their way to my blog yet — so here we are! Keep reading for everything that’s changed in our first house over the last several weeks, the insane furniture deals we got, as well as upcoming projects!
If you want to catch up, I’ve posted two vlogs on my YouTube channel sharing the process during the first few weeks after getting our keys. I’ve transitioned to sharing videos on Instagram stories a bit more since those tend to get the most traction (should I keep posting on YouTube?! Let me know what you think!), so check there for more updates:
As you can see, our flooring is finished other than needing a couple transition pieces in some doorways. We knew the next big thing we wanted to take on was getting new furniture. There’s a Kittles just minutes away from our old apartment and we’d been popping in there every so often for the past year or so hoping to possibly stumble across the right sectional at the right price.
We had been using a brown suede couch I bought from Big Lots back in 2014-ish for my college dorm, so this buy was long overdue. I’m shocked that the couch lasted that long considering we got it for so cheap, so if you’re needing a super budget-friendly couch that will last a while (especially through college shenanigans), check Big Lots!
The couch we ended up choosing is a taupe/stone sectional from Kittles and we got it for an AMAZING deal! It was listed for $700 (sectionals are usually the most expensive couches on the market, so we were shocked to see this price) and with discounts and a little negotiating, I believe we got the price down to $650 or so. We picked it up from their warehouse just a couple days later and it was super easy to put together. We’re obsessed!
The rug we ended up getting is so dreamy (yes, dreamy). I did an entire blog post on large bohemian area rugs under $300 last week and I kept going back and forth on which one I wanted to order. Fast forward to this past weekend, my mom, aunt, cousin and I went to check out a budget-friendly home warehouse called Salvage & Co in Fishers that I had seen on Facebook. I’m not exaggerating when I say I want to LIVE in this warehouse! They had so many cute pieces (couches, chairs, tables, pillows, rugs, wall art… you name it!) at unbelievable prices that I seriously wanted to grab everything.
Weirdly and luckily enough, I stumbled across one of the rugs (Safavieh Monaco Vintage Boho Medallion Light Blue/Fuchsia Rug – can be bought on Overstock and Wayfair) I included in my blog post for an even better deal. It was listed for $180 + a 20% off rug deal going on that day, so I got it for around $135. The rug pulls together our space so beautifully and I can’t wait to go back!
Believe it or not, we purchased this dining table and chairs from Kittles the same day we got the couch! You could say that we like to knock everything out at once. 😂 Again, not expecting to purchase anything that day, this was another deal we couldn’t pass up. This table and set of four chairs were on clearance and we got ALL OF IT for just under $300! So insane! The table has a couple scuff marks that can easily we buffed out and refinished, but they are conveniently right under the placemats that I had planned to use anyway. That may be something we fix in the future, but for now you can’t even see it!
I’ve seen these wicker-like chairs a lot and always assumed they were uncomfortable, fragile and just impractical. To my surprise, that’s not the case at all with this set! The chairs are actually surprisingly heavy and are really comfortable to sit in. I think four chairs is perfect for our dining space with two stools at the bar directly behind it if we ever have more than a couple guests over. The bar stools are from TJ Maxx in the light wood color I love. I’ve linked the exact stools below and some similar chairs.
Now onto the entryway. Weirdly enough, this was one of the places I was most excited to decorate because I knew exactly what I wanted before we even bought a house. I wanted it to be minimal and inviting, so this is what it’s looking like currently. The bench serves as a place to sit down and take your shoes off, and the mirror is perfect for last minute touchups before running out the door. The rug is a woven texture, making it easy to dust off your feet too! The bench and rug are from TJ Maxx, the knit pumpkins are from Kirklands, the pillow us from Target and the mirror is from Gordmans!
To wrap this up, we also bought a second wooden desk from Target just like our other one (I’ll do an office reveal once we finish it out a bit more), as well as a few other purchases here and there that I’ll share soon. As for projects, we’re in the process of laying quarter round on all of our trim and we replaced all the old off-white outlets/switches with new white ones.
I hope you guys enjoyed this update! I’ve gotten such sweet messages from you all saying you love all the house stuff I’ve been posting, so thank you so much for following along! The positive feedback encourages me to keep sharing because I know you’re enjoying it just as much as I am, so thank you! Have a great weekend, everyone!
