Friday Favorites

Welcome back to the blog! I’m long overdue for another favorites post, so I have lots of things to share with you today. Keep reading for my latest true crime documentary, YouTube and beauty favorites of the moment.

SERIES + DOCUMENTARIES

I mentioned some of these crime documentaries on my Instagram story last week and a few of you messaged me after asking what they were again, so here are the links & info!

Casey Anthony’s Parents Speak
This is one of my favorite cases of all time and I still vividly remember watching the verdict live online 10 years ago — needless to say, I’ve been invested for a long time. I saw on someone’s Instagram story that they were watching this on A&E a week or two ago and I scrambled to find somewhere I could watch it for free (or cheap) since we don’t have cable. Justin found it on DirectTV online, which was only $10 for a one-month subscription so I thought it was worth it. The documentary didn’t disappoint and it gave some answers as to what each of her parents believe to be true about the case, which I’d been dying to hear for the longest time. It even gives an update on where Casey is now, what she’s doing and their relationship with her since being released from prison. I highly recommend this one!

Mary Kay Letourneau Autobiography
While watching the Casey Anthony documentary, this one was advertised during the commercial breaks and I instantly was intrigued. This documentary is essentially about a elementary school teacher in the 90s who was married with four children and had an affair with her 6th grade student. So gross, but so crazy to watch! This was apparently the first documented case of this happing with a female teacher, which gave this an interesting angle. I won’t give you any spoilers, but believe me when I say it’s super juicy.

The Staircase
I saw this docu-series advertised on Netflix and knew I needed to start it ASAP. Similar to Making a Murder, it highlights the case and trial of the “staircase fall” death (or possible murder?) of Kathleen Peterson, the wife of novelist Michael Peterson. I love the format of this type of documentaries because they really suck you in and keep you guessing as details unfold. It has a cinematic feel and not a single second of it is boring or slow. You need to add this one to your list!

UP NEXT: Since we have DirectTV through the end of the month, I think we’re going to start the latest season of Quantico! Have any of you watched it?

Lauren Elizabeth — Current Obsessions: Fitness, Fashion & Beauty
Lauren has this special skill of convincing me to buy just about anything she raves about. She’s one of my few go-to resources for fashion, beauty and lifestyle and she always seems to know what’s going to be trendy before everyone else, plus her personality keeps things fun and entertaining. I NEED that Amazon Prime ring dupe she mentioned and I’m dying to get my hands on that Becca blurring palette!

BEAUTY

NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator
I’ve been seeing liquid highlighters everywhere lately, so I decided to give this one a try and I’m really happy with the results! I went with the lightest shade since my natural skin tone is fair and I always use a white cream highlighter anyway. I’m not brave enough to mix it in with my foundation or highlighter (people do that I think?), and instead apply it over my foundation on my cheekbones, brow bone, cupid’s bow and the bridge of my nose. I love the glowy look for summer and I feel like a good self-tan and highlight combo makes my skin look super healthy.
