Chris Watts: My Thoughts + Theories (Part 2)

Welcome back to Part 2 of my Chris Watts series! The first part did so well that I did a poll on Instagram asking if you’d like to see more, and a majority of you voted yes! I’m so glad you guys are as into this case as I am because Justin isn’t, so this gives me the opportunity to talk with someone about it and get all my theories and findings out in the open. 😏 Keep reading for all my new discoveries in the case, the shadow that may prove one or more of the daughters were alive when Chris claimed they weren’t, Nichol Kessinger’s (NK) potential involvement, how jail life reportedly is for Chris + more!

First and foremost, be sure you’ve read Part 1.

Chris Watts: My Thoughts + Theories (Part 2)

THE SHADOW

You guys, this has thrown me for a loop. I think I stopped breathing for a couple minutes when I discovered this theory because it’s so shocking. Watch the video above before continuing (I know it’s titled Part 2, but this is the video you need to see because the first one is just a trailer), but essentially the theory is that one (or both) of the children was alive when Chris was loading up his truck to head to the burial site. This completely throws out every fact we believe to be true and doesn’t align with his confession whatsoever. This obviously clears Shanann of the murders (though we didn’t need a shadow to know that 🙄) and honestly makes the whole crime even more horrific, in my opinion.

To think that he potentially killed the daughters at the dumpsite instead of at home is a strange, but plausible detail. Some people also believe that one or both of the daughters were thrown into the tanks alive because he couldn’t bring himself to kill them. Again, he’s a monster, so I think he’s capable of pretty much anything — don’t underestimate him.

Here are some more videos on this:

NK’S INVOLVEMENT

Now THIS is the big debate right now. I’ve watched so many videos and I’ve really dived deep into the comment sections trying to figure out everyone’s theories and what the truth could be. Though likely involved in some way, I never anticipated that NK would have been involved in the actual crime physically until more recently.

One thing that tripped me up from the beginning was how weird/stupid it was for Chris to say in his confession that Shan’ann strangled the daughters, when the autopsy showed they were smothered, which Chris obviously knew since he did it. If you were going to blame their murders on someone else, wouldn’t you get the facts straight?!

This leads to the theory that NK killed the daughters, and Chris killed Shanann. That could explain why he was inaccurate about their cause of death in his confession, and for some reason, many people believe he would have been incapable of killing his own children. If there’s anything I’ve learned from this case, it’s that nothing was too horrific for that man to do — he’s ruthless.

There is also a theory that NK was with him while loading up the truck. At the beginning of the video, there are two clips of a person walking to/from the truck — one some people believe is NK due to “tighter jeans,” “different shoes” and a “more feminine walk,” and the other is Chris. I’m not sure how I feel about this one. Nicole’s phone was apparently off and/or pinged to a neighboring town during this time, so the truth is unclear, much like everything in this case.

You’ll also notice there is at least one other car leaving the area while Chris is loading the truck. Most people have said this is the neighbor (how scary is it that he was loading up his truck as the sun was coming up where neighbors could have seen?!), while skeptics think it could have been NK. Watch the video above — very spooky, and quite telling!

I think many of us can agree that NK knew more and had more involvement in the case than we know. Did she get immunity for coming forward? Is her big wig dad (oil company owner and Chris’ boss, apparently) protecting her? What do you guys think?

THE ORDER IT HAPPENED

This is another big question mark and I’m worried we’ll never know the truth. Who was killed first? Did it go as planned, or was the order changed last minute? Though we’ve been unsure about this since the beginning, these new theories make it all even more unclear. I think Shannan’s family deserves to know how and why everything went down, and I’m hoping time in prison and Chris coming to the realization that this is his life now will make him come forward with more details.

My last theory was that the daughters were killed before Shannan got home and were left in their beds, then he killed Shannan after she fell asleep and then loaded them all in the truck. Now my theory is that Shannan was killed first, then the daughters were brought along to the dumpsite with their blankets (which were in fact missing) and were killed there.

I think his whole plan changed we Shannan’s flight got delayed. She was getting home later than expected and that has to speed up Chris’ plan so he could be able to make it to work on time without raising suspicion.

THE DISPOSAL

If you watch the security camera footage, you can see Chris loading a gas can into the truck, which was apparently not one of is usual work items to carry around. As others believe too, I now think Chris planned to burn Shannan’s body, but his plan was foiled by Shannan’s friend getting the cops involved so early on. When you think about it, it doesn’t make sense that he would put the daughters in the tanks to completely destroy evidence and have their bodies break down fully, then throw Shannan in a shallow grave. I think 1) he buried her planning to come back later to burn her body, or since she came home from the airport later than expected, 2) he hoped he could burn her before work. I think #1 makes the most sense.

JAIL LIFE

I’ve heard two totally different accounts of how Chris is behaving in jail. One said he’s completely emotionless, stares at the wall and hasn’t shed a single tear. The other account claims he reads books to his daughters every night, cries, has taken up religion and is always reading the Bible.

One thing that is consistent is that he spends 23 hours every day in his cell, and only 1 out. He is under heavy security and is alone (except for the guards, of course) during that time and has zero contact with other inmates. He’s also apparently using his money to buy unhealthy junk food, so for a man that once cared so much about his health, I think that says a lot about his mental state.

Other little things I’ve learned:

  • I’ve heard a even more information about the relationship between Shannan’s parents and Chris’ parents. What a mess! Watch the video above for some more info.
  • I was confused watching the trial when I heard Shanann’s family pronounce her name as “Shannon.” I learned this week that is how it was supposed to be pronounced, but Shan’ann changed it and her mom apparently respected it. Interesting.
  • Shanann was married once before she married Chris to a man named Leonard King, an attorney in North Carolina. They got married around 2002/2003 and divorced around 2007/2008.
  • Today, February 1, was Shannan’s due date for her unborn baby.

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! What are your theories? If new information continues to come up, which I feel like it’s bound to, I’ll do a Part 3 as well. Have a great weekend, everyone!
