Baby Girl Nursery Inspiration: Coastal Bohemian
Hi everyone! Now that we know our first baby due in November is a girl, I’m so excited to decorate her nursery and share my inspiration with you. In this post I’ll go over the coastal bohemian vibe we’re going for, the color palette, items we’ve bought already and some pieces I have my eyes on to pull the space together. So sit back, relax and let’s talk interior design!
For those that don’t know, we moved our guest room to our second largest bedroom for a office/guest room combo, and our old guest room will be the nursery. We already have the fringe light fixture above hanging in there!
As you can see from my inspiration collage above, we’re incorporating a lot of textures (my fave), beach prints for a warm/sunny/calm vibe, a mostly warm palette with touches of soft blues and greens, light wood (as always), wooden elements in general, rattan, baskets, some nature elements (rainbows, shells, clouds), etc. My goal is to pick pieces that will grow with her as she gets older (including for smart shopping and practical purposes), and as you can see, I’m not into the typical florals and things like that. I really want the room to have a calming and laidback feel while still being fun.
TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT?
I’ve kept our whole house white because that’s my preference. I love how bright white walls make the rooms look and I always play up color with my decor instead. I initially had no desire to paint the nursery either, until I saw the pink, mustard and blue wall I included in the collage from @lifeofriverandiluka_ on Instagram. Wow, I love it! If I do decide to paint, I’ll likely include the wave print I found that I overlayed on top above it, but if I don’t paint, I’ll do one of the colored ocean prints instead. I haven’t decided!
WHAT WE HAVE & NEED
Some of the items in the collage are random and aren’t from a specific store, but if you want links to anything, let me know and I’ll share them if I have them!
Things we’ve bought:
- Crib (Ikea) — LOVE it!
- Dresser (Home Depot) — I’m not sold on it, so we may get this one or this one instead
- Rocker (2Modern) — my parents got this for us and we’re waiting for it to come in the mail
- Picture frame for above crib (Amazon) — the print that will go in it will depend on whether we paint or not
- Decorative surfboard (Homegoods)
- Bassinet (The Boho Garage)
- Shell and cloud pillows (Moi Mili) — waiting for these to come in the mail too
Shopping list:
- Wall shelves to display books, toys and knick-knacks
- Wall hooks to hang some outfits, slings, etc.
- Wall mirror — I’m thinking a full-length one attached to the wall and/or a round one over the dresser
- Area rug — I fell in love with the one I put in the collage, but the 5×7 size is on backorder until December… which I’m so sad about. Alternatively, I like these:
- Changing basket — Design Dua has some cute ones!
- Rattan side table for rocker
- Prints and frames — love Society 6 ones with frames from Amazon
- Mobile — Etsy has lots of fun ones
- Possibly an ottoman, if there’s room
- Lamp
__________
That’s pretty much everything! What a surreal feeling that I’m preparing a room for someone who I haven’t met and who isn’t even born yet… that’s going to be my CHILD. Truly wild. Anyway, I hoped you enjoyed this post and are feeling inspired! You can follow my Baby Pinterest board here for more inspo and check out my other pregnancy/baby-related blog posts here.
