20 Week Pregnancy Update
As of today, I’m halfway through my pregnancy! What an adventure these 20 weeks have been and I’m just so happy to be pregnant. Today’s post will be an update on how my second trimester is going so far including new body changes, Justin getting to feel the baby kick for the first time, how the anatomy scan went + more!
How far along are you now?
Officially 20 weeks today! Baby girl is the size of a banana — 6.5 inches from her head to her butt and 10.1 ounces according to my Bump app. Can’t believe I’m 5 months pregnant!
Pregnancy symptoms?
I’ve definitely experienced some changes. My skin hasn’t been great and my upper back and shoulders are so broke out thanks to hormones, and it’s starting to spread to my chest too. I’ve been trying to drink more water and use a cleanser on my back and chest regularly to see if that helps, but I haven’t seen an improvement. It seems to be out of my control, unfortunately. Also, I’m starting to get a super faint linea nigra line below my belly button and my lips have been SO DRY. Any dry lip and hormonal breakout tips you have would be greatly appreciated!
Weight gain?
I’ve gained all the weight back that I lost from being so sick in my first trimester + a bit more.
Maternity clothes?
Nope, but none of my jeans fit and most of the pants I own are uncomfortable on my belly. My go-to’s have been dresses, jumpsuits, low-rise shorts and leggings occasionally. I want to get some Blanqi maternity biker shorts for summer!
Sleep?
I was sleeping pretty bad for a while a few weeks ago, then it got WAY better, and then two nights ago I slept absolutely terrible because of back pain and woke up at 5:30 a.m. and could not fall back asleep. So, in summary, this is pretty wishy-washy for me.
Best moment?
Justin and I felt the baby kick from the outside for the first time at 19 weeks and it was the most special thing ever! He was so, so excited and it was the coolest thing to get to see him experience that. He feels several kicks a day because the baby moves a ton!
Weird pregnancy moment?
I noticed I can’t always stand up as easily as I used to when sitting on the ground and I can’t comfortably sit in the same positions I used to. My skin will pinch above my belly if I’m not sitting up straight.
Baby movement?
TONS! I’ve been able to feel her internally for about 5 ish weeks and I started feeling her kick externally at 19 weeks. I can’t wait to be able to see it from the outside too! It’s so cool to be able to feel her move so strongly all the time and it makes me feel even closer to her.
Food cravings?
I’ve been all about candy lately! Smarties, AirHeads, Starburst… you name it. Also, Freddy’s — love their fry sauce, chili cheese fries, cheeseburgers and turtle sundaes. Oh, and McAlister’s grilled chicken club.
Anything making you queasy?
Nope, I’m only occasionally nauseous these days and eating helps. I usually like to keep pretzels or something nearby when this does happen.
Favorite products?
I haven’t been using anything new (just my belly better and oil for stretch marks that I talked about in my First Trimester Update).
Gender?
We found out about a week and a half ago at 18 weeks that we’re having a GIRL! I was so shocked. You can read more about our reactions, my thoughts on having a daughter and how we told our families here.
Something you’re looking forward to?
Now that we know the gender and it still feels so new, I’m looking forward to everything in a new way — picking a name, decorating her nursery, finishing up my registry with girl things, etc. I’ve really been enjoying my pregnancy!
20 WEEK ANATOMY SCAN
Doc said everything looked perfect! I was so nervous leading up to the appointment though and it was disappointing that Justin wasn’t allowed in the room due to COVID-19 restrictions. I learned that my placenta is in the front, so it may take longer to be able to see the baby kick. Like I talked about in my gender reveal post, she was moving like crazy and it was so cool to see her wiggling around.

That’s my 20-week update! Only about 20 more weeks until we meet our little BFF. So surreal! Thank you for reading & see you in my next post!
