Our First House: Entryway Inspiration

Our First House: Entryway Inspiration

Hey guys! As we get ready to close on the house this week, I’m hitting the Pinterest boards hard trying to determine how I want to approach decorating each room. One of the random spaces that I’m actually pretty excited for is the entryway. Keep reading for my thoughts on what I plan to do with it, as well as a couple decisions we may need some help on!

To catch up, you’re welcome to read my first post in this series: Our First House: Kitchen Inspiration.

HERE’S WHAT WE’RE THINKING

I want the entryway to serve a few purposes, but for starters, I want it to look great since it’s the first impression people are going to get when they walk in the door. I want it to have personality and represent the bohemian vibe I naturally gravitate to. But most importantly, I want it to be functional and practical. Though it’s fun to decorate spaces, I think focusing on how it can be best used in your everyday life is something to emphasis on. Below are examples of what we have in mind.

Elements we’d like to incorporate:

  • Either a bench or a catch-all table
  • Texture — furry pillow, potted plant, etc.
  • Rug (likely a runner or one you can wipe your feet on)
  • Mirror for last minute touch ups
  • Can light or unique, minimal light fixture
  • Light wood floors — we just picked our floors out and ordered them yesterday! Sneak a peek on my “Home” Instagram story highlight

I’m torn between a tall, long table to serve as a catch-all for keys and what not, or a bench that we can sit on when putting on our shoes before heading out the door. What do you guys think? I think both would be super helpful, but I don’t think we could do both unless we find a bench that can slide under a table without taking up too much space. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

I think it’s nice to have a mirror in the entry like we have now for quick touch-ups before running out the door. I plan to use the same one from Gordmans because I love it so much. It has a cool, detailed metal frame and a rope hang, and it truly looks straight out of Anthropologie. This will be a great way to add some detailed texture to the space.

As for the light fixture, I’m not quite sure yet. We already have some can lights that we’re going to use throughout the kitchen and living room, so I’m not sure if we want to just put one of those in the entry, or use something more unique. I’d love to get my hands on a smaller version of the light fixture above in the last photo on the right.

Lastly, depending on what we end up getting, I want to style everything really well with textured items. Whether it’s pillows, plants or knick-knacks, I think this will be a fun space to add our own personal touch to. I mentioned this on my Instagram story, but I’d kind of like to get a neon sign that says “The Armbrusters” to hang in our entryway, possibly above the mirror. I’m in love with this idea, but we’ll see how everything comes together.

That’s about it for the entryway! If you have any recommendations on where to buy stuff (table, bench, rug, etc.), let me know! I hope you all are enjoying these posts — I have more coming on each room of the house. See you here on Wednesday!
