I Tried the Multicolor Nails Trend and Here's What I Thought of It

Hi friends! If you keep up with me on Instagram, you know that I finally decided to try the multicolor nails trend (AKA painting each nail a different color) that I talked about in my Spring Trends post last month. I wasn’t big on the idea of it when I first saw it circulating on social media, but it grew on me eventually and I decided to give it a try myself. Keep reading for my thoughts on the trend now, whether my nail lady was annoyed with me when I asked for this, public response to it and if I’d do it again!

I Tried the Multicolor Nails Trend and Here's What I Thought of It

I was actually pretty nervous to try this trend because I only get my nails redone once every month, so if I didn’t end up liking it, I knew I’d be stuck with it for 4 weeks (or I’d have to pay to get them redone sooner). I don’t limit myself when it comes to budgeting for getting my nails done necessarily, but I like them to last as long as possible and I know people usually get theirs done much more often than me — but it’s just my personal preference!

Here’s an unfiltered photo so you can get a better look at the colors!

I figured to best and easiest way to select colors was to pick consecutive ones on the sample swatches. I decided to go with shades of pink/purple, and not going to lie, I was also a little nervous that my nail lady would be annoyed with me for picking something complicated. I always do just one color without designs or anything at my salon, so I’m sure she was like HUH?! I also feared it would be hard to communicate how many colors I wanted and where I’d like them on each nail, but she ended up being a good sport about it. I do recommend picking colors next to each other because it made it so much easier.

When she brought the colors back, I explained which one I wanted where and it went smoothly! I was worried that the colors may get mixed up and accidentally put in the wrong places, but that wasn’t the case. It didn’t take much longer than a standard, one-color manicure and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The color transition is super subtle and I love it!

HOW DID PEOPLE REACT?

It’s weird that this is a question in our heads since it’s seriously just nail polish, but it’s out-of-the-box and not something a lot of people have really done since we were kids, at least where I live with people I know. To be honest, no one has commented on them and that has surprised me. In my eyes, that means no one has really noticed them (I did pick really similar shades in the same color family, so that’s very possible) or they think they’re so ugly that they have nothing positive to say (lol). I’m thinking no one is noticing. Other people’s opinions on this kind of stuff do not affect me whatsoever, but I think it’s kind of a fun social experiment to hear people’s thoughts. I’ll update you guys if I get any feedback from people when out and about!

WOULD YOU DO IT AGAIN?

I’d absolutely get these again! I’m actually WAY more in love with them than I thought I would be and I think it’s so cool that I get to try out five different shades at once, some of which I may never have selected as solo colors on their own. I find myself staring at them a lot and it’s such a fun change if you’re getting bored with your usual manicure and want to try spicing things up. I love trying new things because I feel like subtle changes like this add a little extra fun to my life/week. Maybe I’ll be ballsy enough to ask for designs next. 😉

INSPIRATION

Here are some inspiration images if you’re curious to try this out. If you’re a little hesitant about it, go for something neutral and low key. I think I want to do shades of blue next!

I challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and give it a try and if you do end up doing it, tag me because I’d love to see it! I’ve also seen these manicures tagged as #BoycottBoringNails on social media, so look that up if you’d like to see other people’s nails or want to add yours to the mix. Thanks so much for reading & see you in Wednesday’s post!

  1. Love the colors you picked! I’ve been wanting to do this but I’m always so indecisive about one color, I’m stressed at the thought of picking 5 😂
