Baby Names I Love But Won’t Be Using

Baby Names I Love But Won't Be Using

Like so many of you, I love names. I’m definitely one of those girls that had her future baby’s names picked out since I was a kid, though they’ve changed a hundred times since then. But let me tell you, it’s not as easy as you think once you’re actually expecting your first child and choosing a name is finally a real thing! Anyway, today’s post is going to be filled with boy and girl names I love but won’t be using (which I’ll explain why), as well as the types of names I like most.

We likely won’t be sharing the name until our baby is born, but I can give you an idea of the types of names I like. Since Armbruster is kind of a mouthful and difficult for some people to pronounce and spell who haven’t heard it before (it’s pronounced arm-brew-ster, in case you’re curious), I like short names for first names. It will likely be one or two syllables, easy to spell and can only be pronounced one way. I think a short first name helps to balance out our last name and prevents it from being too wordy.

I love:

  • 1-2 syllables
  • unisex names
  • “boy names” for girls
  • nature-inspired and earthy names
  • word names
  • beachy and boho vibe names
  • names that are unique while still being existing names

I think it’s important to choose a name that will age well and will work for a child and an adult. I don’t really like names that can be shortened to nicknames (i.e. my legal name is Abigail, but I’ve always gone by Abby and had to have all of my teachers change it on their rosters), so that’s another reason why I like short and simple ones. I want to try to avoid J and A names as well since those initials already exist in our family and I’d love for our baby to have her own.

With that being said, here are names I like that we won’t be using for various reasons including being too common, Justin not liking them, I don’t love them enough or they’re just not ones I would ever personally use, even though I think they’re cute. However, we may consider these for middle names! Who knows! You’re welcome to cringe or laugh at any of these that you hate (lol). Names are so personal and everyone has different tastes, so I get it! Hopefully this gives you some ideas if you’re on the hunt for the perfect one.

BOY

Dune — I love this one, but Justin absolutely hates it! He doesn’t think it sounds like a name whatsoever, but I think it’s so cool and unique. Maybe he’ll be down to incorporate it as a middle name at some point.
Mate — Justin declined this one for reasons that I’m sure you can guess (which I can’t deny), but I think it’s cool.
Hutch — Love the simplicity of it and that it sounds like a nickname
Rhode/Rhodes
Bode/Bodhi/Boden — This one has gotten pretty popular over the last few years and I can see why. It falls into a lot of people’s name styles and I think it’s nice for all ages.
Ozzy
Grove
Penn
Cedar
Roan
Beck
Reef

GIRL

Elliot/Elliott — This is a name I was so sure I would use for a few years, but I realized that would mean a lot of people would call her Ellie or Elle for short (neither of which I like).
Luca — I love this one and it’s very close to Lucia (pronounced loo-sha), which is our dog’s name.
Gigi Capri — I saw this first and middle name combo on Instagram and thought it was so cute!
Violet — This one has gotten so popular lately, especially this year, but I think it’s so beautiful! I’d consider it for a middle name.
Maude
Lenox/Lennox — I don’t usually ever like names with Xs in them, but I do like this one!
Lennon
Goldie
Scout
Tanner
Pollie/Polly
— makes me think of Pauly D from Jersey Shore, so I’m not sure I could use it because of that
Sunny
Ozzy
Pippa
Lottie
Winnie

Those are some names I love, but won’t be using (at least not for first names). My top favorites will stay a secret until we finalize our name choice. I’d love to hear some of your favorites in the comments, what names you think we’d like or what your kids are named! I feel like I’ve seen every name out there, but we’re open to suggestions! 😊
